Collision Student Ministries

“When our depravity meets His divinity, it is a beautiful collision.”
David Crowder

Our Purpose

Collision Student Ministries exist to introduce students to God’s Love, to connect them with other Christian students, to build up their faith, to explore their own ministry opportunities, and above all, to glorify God.

Our purpose statement is based of the 5 Biblical principles of the church:
Evangelism, Fellowship, Discipleship, Ministry, and Worship

The Goals

  • To introduce students to God’s love—Evangelism.
    • Jesus said in Matthew 28:19: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”
    • We want you to feel God’s love through us the second you walk in the door. We want you to hear from God through the things we say. We want you to see God through the things we do. We are called to make disciples, and that’s what we want to do.
  • To connect them with other Christian students—Fellowship.
    • We are meant to be with other people. That is clear from the beginning of time when God told Adam in Genesis “It is not good for man to be alone”. We are created for community, to be with other people. None of us can do what God intended for us to do on our own.
    • Romans 12:5 says that “In Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.”
    • If you’re a new Christian or new to the area, we want to help you find other Christian students to be in fellowship with.
  • To build up their faith—Discipleship.
    • Jesus said in Matthew 28:19-20 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. (emphasis added)
    • We want you to grow in your faith. We want to teach you what God is teaching all of us.
  • To explore their own ministry opportunities—Ministry.
    • Jesus said the second greatest commandment is “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39). This is a call to ministry.
    • We want collision student ministries to be just that: students engaged in ministry. We don’t want the leaders to be the only ones doing ministry. We are called to minister to all with the above Scripture. Let’s do it!
  • To glorify God—Worship.
    • Jesus said “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind is the first and greatest commandment.” Matthew 23:37-38.
    • Our goal is to glorify God in every single thing that we do. Every activity will have a purpose. The ultimate purpose is to glorify Him.

The Schedule

  • COLLISION Youth Night.
    • When—Wednesday Nights, 6:45:8:30.
    • What—The goal of COLLISION Youth Night is to engage students in different ways of experiencing God. Through prayer, ice breakers, games, lessons, and worship, we want to challenge students to search for truth in Christ. This is a night where the committed student through the seeker student will be challenged with questions dealing with life and questions dealing with God.
  • Sabbath Night
    • When—Every Sunday starting at 7 PM
    • What—We’ll meet at the church for an in-depth bible study at 7 PM and leave for Bethel at 7:45 for Vespers, a worship opportunity at Bethel University. This is for students who really want to dig in to God’s word and worship Him prayerfully. Please talk to Andy or Alecia if you are interested in attending Sabbath Night
  • Peer Groups
    • When—Varies
    • What—These are small group studies led by you or your peers. You get together and set the time, place and topic. Talk to Andy or Alecia if you want to start one, get involved with one, or need material.
  • Special Events, Service Projects
    • When—These are random and you will be informed of them well in advance.
    • What—These may include retreats, student conferences, service projects, and one day events. These will give us the chance to escape our everyday routine of life. These will help us grow closer to God and each other.

The Expectations

It takes everyone’s cooperation to make COLLISION into a group that people want to be a part of the second they step in the door. Because we care for every individual, we will not allow negative behavior from a few to ruin it for the whole group.

Exclusive groups or relationships, negative attitudes, disrespect, inappropriate behavior, and rebellious spirits destroy community and are not acceptable. We aren’t expecting perfection, but we do expect each person to give his or her best possible effort. Here are a few basic expectations for all COLLISION activities and events that we are a part of.

  1. Be where you are supposed to be.
    • Follow the schedule. Be in the right place at the right time.
  2. Respect God, people, and property.
    • Have fun, but not at other’s expense.
    • Even if you are not a believer, do not distract others during times of prayer, worship, or focused attention.
    • Unkind or disruptive behaviors are unacceptable.
    • Uncooperative or rebellious attitudes toward leadership will not be tolerated.
    • No gossip, lies, disrespectful comments, improper language, and coarse joking.
    • Be careful with food or pop. Our facilities are not the greatest, but the better we take care of it, the more chances we have to get better couches, carpet, etc.
    • Consider the whole group, not just yourself
    • Use all equipment properly or how it is intended to be used.
    • Damage done will be paid for or restored by those responsible.
  3. Ask first.
    • Before you move something or use something that is not entirely yours, be sure you get permission from the correct people.
  4. Focus on building friendships, not the boyfriend/girlfriend trap.
    • This is not saying that dating is not allowed. Just remember that friendships are what the target is!
  5. The following items are not allowed!
    • Laser pointers
    • TVs, radios, CD players, DVD players, mp3 players, etc.
    • Pornography or questionable reading material
    • Fireworks or weapons.
    • Dress appropriately.
      • Clothing that is blatantly vulgar, suggestive, or disrespectful.
      • Do not wear clothing that reveals too much skin or underwear.
    • Anything deemed unacceptable or distracting by Andy or any other adults.
    • Animals, unless used for an object lesson.
    • If you are afraid it will get lost, stolen, dirty, or damaged, leave it at home! You are responsible for your own items!
  6. Avoid bringing your cell phone.
    • No calls, text messaging, or games allowed during events unless permission is given by a leader.
    • If it becomes a distraction, the phone will be taken away and turned off until we are done!

Consequences

If a student chooses to break these expectations, they can expect:
  1. Strike One: A verbal warning and 1-on-1 discussion at an appropriate time.
  2. Strike Two: You will be sent home for the rest of the program and a phone call to a parent or a guardian will be made.
  3. Strike Three: A parent will have to speak to Andy in person or accompany you to your next event at COLLISION.
  4. Strike Four: You will be asked to not return to COLLISION until you can demonstrate willingness and ability to abide by the expectations. If the misbehavior happens on a trip, you could be sent home at your family’s expense!
Andy and any other adult leaders reserve the right to move directly to whatever strike they feel is appropriate for the situation. We want you to come to COLLISION and have fun, but we must think of the group ahead of the individual. These rules are in place to help the whole group have fun and be productive.
