What to Expect
Being on this journey does not mean that we
do not have faults and struggles, so we want to remove any pressure to pretend
that we are all perfect. This journey is, frankly, not easy; we simply believe
that it is the road to true life and the only way to
become better, changed people. So we need to do away with the platitudes and
help one another, as well as accept one another along the way. Come as you
are. You do not need to dress up either your clothing or your social
position. We desire to have an authentic community passionate about the One who
can touch us and heal us in the deepest places of our being.
We want to be relevant. We do not want to
create a foreign religious culture that does not address the questions that
people are asking today. We strive to make our services powerful in their
capacity to lead us to Jesus. At the same time, we plan them to be contemporary
so that people who have little or no experience with church activities can join
in and feel at home. We incorporate a variety of arts and media in our services
so that we all may be enticed to embrace the journey.
There are many good things going on at River
of Life Church. We work hard to build excellent ministries for children,
students, and adults. We sponsor missionaries and provide care for those in
need. We are also excited about our team of gifted ministers and elders who
bring leadership to the ministries of the church. But we realize that true
ministry is not a pastor-only thing. Real ministry takes place when all of us
on the Journey of Jesus hold out a hand of service to one another. All real
growth and healing take place in community; it happens along the road—the road
traveled toward that one most compelling, most desirable, most glorious Jesus.
We would love to have you along.
